ROUND 7 - Nationals Sprint Distance at Ohakea Air Base
Orienteering Nationals kicked off on Easter Friday with a great Sprint at the Ohakea Air Base. A newly mapped area by Jason Markham was fast paced with highly technical layout of buildings and small patch of native bush.
The Elite Mens category was taken out by Tim Robertson, followed by Nick Hann and Shamus Morrison. Darren Ashmore was pleased with his 8th place, commenting that he was probably already over 20 years old when all the competitors in front of him were born. Sounds like the young legs won on the day!
In the Elite Womens category. Lizzie Ingham showed her class coming 1st, followed up by Greta Knarston in 2nd, and Amber Morrison in 3rd.

ROUND 8 - Nationals Middle Distance at Waikawa Beach
Tight racing was the order of the day on the Manga Pirau map at Waikawa Beach. Competitors wrestled with the challenges of the coastal dunes and forest, which was also the location for the Oceania and World Cup middle distance race in 2013.
Tim Robertson effectively navigated through the intricate terrain to win the Elite Men grade, followed closely by Nick Hann and Gene Beveridge. Second yesterday in the Elite Women, Greta Knarston had a smooth run to beat locals Piret Klade and yesterday's winner Lizzie Ingham.
The junior classes once again demonstrated the emerging talent coming through in NZ orienteering with some outstanding runs from many individuals in this very technical terrain. Junior World Orienteering Champs team members were at the fore. Sonia Hollands pipped Kayla Fairbairn by 15 seconds for the win, and Rebecca Gray in third in the Junior Elite Women. Cameron Tier belted through course 2 in just over 27 minutes to take the win in the Junior Elite Men, some 7 minutes faster than the Elite Women on the same course, with Matt Goodall and Ed Cory-Wright rounding off 2nd and 3rd respectively.

ROUND 10 - Nationals Night Champs at Mt Lees Reserve
Some tough racing on the previous days, a cold night and a greater focus on the relay the next day, all meant that the field was greatly reduced for the inaugural Night Champs. Chris Forne won comfortably from Nick Hann and Dennis de Monchy. Local elite Tessa Ramsden beat Emily Wall in the Elite Womens grade.
